| Synopsis | The full title of this follow-up to The Bowling Club is The New Season - A Satire on the Perils and Pitfalls of an Innocent English Game and Those Who Try to Play it!.
In this new book, the author gives us a highly amusing and very well observed insight into the trials and tribulations of the compulsive, often fanatical members, during a new bowling season. The contents page carries a brief summary of the events of each month and June's entry, for example, provides a flavour of the book's humorous style: June - The County Call-up
The club's finest lose their way and their coach, the tourists arrive a day too early, the women challenge the men on and off the green and cross-dressing is the order of the day. It's a good day for the press, a bad one for Sheila and an impending disaster for the visitors' president. It's a book that all bowlers can relate to, but better still, it's a great read for anyone who knows nothing at all about the game. This isn't a factual book, but it's definitely a funny one.
