The first edition of this work, published about 1954, was titled Gregory's Guide to Bowls (including bowls for beginners by Jack Giles) and contained 122 pages of which Jack Giles' contribution accounted for about one-third. Its material was confined to the bowls scene in New South Wales, whereas the 2nd edition covers all Australian states.
